Description

Ecuador is located in the northwest part of South America fronting on the Pacific. It borders Colombia to the north and Peru to the southeast. The country covers an area of 272,046 square kilometers and holds a population of 14,790,608 people. The capital of Ecuador is Quito; a city with a population of roughly 1,397,698 people and accounted as the second most populous city in Ecuador, after Guayaquil.

Weather

The only thing predictable about Ecuador’s climate is its unpredictability. Normally, Ecuador has two seasons; the wet season and dry season, however, local weather pattern differs to a great extent depending on geography. There is no such thing as the ideal period in visiting Ecuador as the climate is exceptionally beautiful all-year round.

Language

Ecuador’s official language is Spanish, nevertheless
Quichua, an Inca-language, is widely spoken by the Indian population. Besides
Spanish, a number of ten native languages are broadly spoken in Ecuador.
English is the majority spoken foreign language among the professionals and tourist
providers.

Currency

The official currency in Ecuador is the American Dollar. The bills are the same as those used in the United States but the coins are printed in Ecuador with the images of historical personalities in Ecuador but they remain the same in size, weight, workmanship and color as the US coins but they are only valid within the territory of Ecuador. Ecuador’s economy depends a lot on petroleum production and alongside with exports of agricultural goods and seafood.

Tourist Attractions

One of the most prominent tourist attractions of Ecuador is the Cotopaxi Volcano. Cotopaxi is the highest active volcano in world and is located about 28 kilometers south of Quito, Ecuador, South America. It is the 2nds highest summit in the country, reaching a height of 5,897 meters.

El Cajas National Park is another of Ecuador’s tourist attraction. This park is an admired destination for hiking and camping, and it is popular for its 275 lakes and waterfalls.
