Guatemala is a country that is located in Central America. It borders the Pacific Ocean to the southwest, Belize to the northeast, Honduras and El Salvador to the southeast, the Caribbean to the east, and Mexico to the north and west. The country itself covers an area of 108,890 square kilometers and boasts a population of 13,276,517 people. Guatemala City is the capital of Guatemala which has a number of 1,105,100 citizens and an area of 692 square kilometers.

The type of weather in Guatemala fluctuates according to altitude. The coastal regions are hot during the year with a standard temperature of 20°C. Near the centre of the country, the rainy season which occurs from May to September is symbolized by clear skies after a rich rainfall in the afternoons and evenings. The dry season is the best time to visit Guatemala which is from November to April even though the busiest time is during the summer months.

Although Spanish is the official language of Guatemala, it isn’t commonly spoken among the native inhabitants nor is it frequently spoken as a second language by the elderly indigenous. This country has more than 20 indigenous languages, added to some other languages spoken by prominent immigrant groups such as Korean and English.

Guatemala’s official currency is the Guatemalan quetzal. The Guatemalan quetzal was pioneered in 1925 during the term of President Jose Maria Orellana, whose image is shown on the one quetzal bill. In the year 2009, Guatemala’s economic growth became negative due to a reduction in export demand from the Central American nations.

with its ruins that are hard to believe. It is located in north central Peten,
Guatemala. Tikal is the biggest and perhaps the oldest of the Mayan cities.
Lake Atitlan is a stunning volcanic lake which
is located in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. It is surrounded by mountains
and volcanoes, which make for a superb site and emphasizes the lake’s exquisiteness.
