Description

South Korea is a country located in East Asia, in the southern half of the Korean Peninsula. The country neighbours Japan to the East, North Korea to the North, China to the West and Taiwan to the South. South Korea covers an area of 100,210 square kilometers. With a population of almost 50 million people, South Korea is one of the fastest growing developed countries. The country’s capital is Seoul, a city with a population of over 10 million people.

 

Weather

South Korea’s climate is generally temperate. March and April are good months to visit South Korea. However, September is the best time to visit, there are fair days and fall colours appear. If you enjoy skiing, November and December is a good time.

 

Language

South Korea’s official languages are Korean. However, with the increased use of English language, most Koreans speak Konglish, a mixture of English and Korean in their speech.

 

Currency

South Korea’s official currency is the South Korean Won (SKW). The country’s currency is relatively strong compared to major world currencies. Its economy depends heavily on international trade and is ranked 14th by nominal GDP and 12th by purchasing power parity in the world.

 

Tourist Attractions

South Korea has numerous attractive sites to visit, ranging from fascinating pre-historic sites to majestic forts and palaces. Tourists can enjoy ancient shrines, national parks and golden beaches. South Korea’s most famous sites include the ancient capitals of Seoul, Gyeongju and Buyeo; they offer classical and modern aspects of the Korean culture.

Natural landmarks such as the peaks of the Baekdudaegan, particularly Seorak-san and Jiri-san are a definite must-see when visiting South Korea.
