New Mexico

Description

New Mexico is a U.S. state that is located on the south western region of U.S. The state is known as a mountainous area and is sparsely populated with about 2 million people. New Mexico covers an area of 315,194 kilometers squared. The Capital city of New Mexico is Santa Fe while the largest city is Albuquerque. New Mexico has been a part of New Spain, Mexico and U.S. as represented by the colors and symbol of New Mexico’s flag.

Weather

New Mexico’s climate is usually semi-arid to arid while other areas experience alpine and continental climate. The state has a desert, high plains and mountains and these basically dictate the climate of the area. During summer the temperatures can be extremely high. New Mexico receives snow and snow it falls mostly in the mountainous areas.

Language

New Mexico has two official languages; English and Spanish. Among all U.S. states, New Mexico has the highest percentage of Hispanics and other native tribes such as Pueblo and Navajo. Nevertheless, aside from the two official languages, there are other indigenous languages in use.

Currency

The currency used in New Mexico is the dollar. The states’ economy relies on tourism, crude oil and natural gas. You can find foreign exchange alternatives in most banks and hotels.

Tourist Attractions

New Mexico has various tourist attractions. The rise of the rail system of transport has subsequently encouraged the growth of settlement and these places have now become tourist destinations. The trains being currently used have an emphasis on the Native American history and as such have certain aura which in a way does promote tourism and culture.

New Mexico also has arts, festivities and museums which feature most of their culture and way of life.
