North Dakota is a U.S. state which is located on the Midwestern area of the country alongside the Canadian border. North Dakota borders Canada to the North, Minnesota to its east, Montana to the west and South Dakota to its south. North Dakota is among the largest states in the country. However, it is among the least populous states with about 700,000 residents according to the recent census. The largest city in the state is Fargo while its state capital is Bismarck. The state covers an area of about 183,272 kilometers squared.

North Dakota is semi-arid and snow pack movements along with low temperatures prevent it from having the xeric character. Nevertheless, meteorological events entail rain, hail, snow, blizzards, tornadoes and thunderstorms. During spring time there is a considerable flooding that takes place due to the presence of water bodies.

The official language used in North Dakota is English. Additionally, a small percentage of the population speaks German as well. Compared to most states, Dakota has the least number of immigrants.
