Rhode Island

Description

Rhode Island is a U.S state which is located on the New England region within the United States. It is among the smallest U.S. states by area and it covers an area of 3,140 kilometers squared with a population of about 1 million residents. Rhode Island borders Connecticut to the west, to the east and north Massachusetts and shares with New York’s long Island a water boundary. The official nickname for Rhode Island is “The Ocean State”. The capital of Rhode Island is Providence.

Weather

The weather in Rhode Island varies greatly with moderate rainfall all through the year, heat waves which are occasionally brief during summer and cold weather in the winter and early spring. In winter, the snow is usually concentrated. Late summer and spring are the best times to visit as you can enjoy most things best during warm and sunny weathers.

Language

While Rhode Island has not defined any official languages, English is sparsely used by the majority of its residents. Due to ancestry groups and immigration the following languages are also in use as well; Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian.

Currency

As a member state of the U.S. Rhode Island uses the dollar currency. The State’s economy is economy is influenced by farming and fishing. Other important industries include costume jewellery, tool making and silverware. Currency conversion should be easily done in major hotels and banks.

Rhode Island has various tourist attractions. The presence of rivers and lakes make it possible for fishing which is a leading sport in the region.
