Singapore is located in Southeast Asia; just off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. The country consists of 63 smaller islands and its total land area is 695 square kilometers. Singapore is separated from Malaysia by the Straits of Johor to the north and from Indonesia’s Riau Islands by the Singapore Strait to its south. The country has a population of over 5.07 million people. Singapore does not have a capital city. Down Core is the country’s urban planning area in the south of the city-state of Singapore.
