Saint Maarten, also known as Saint Martin, is an island located in the northeast of the Caribbean Sea. The island’s jurisdiction is divided between France and Netherlands with the later side having the larger population. It is one of the smallest Sea Islands divided among two nations. Saint Maarten neighbor’s Puerto Rico to the east. Saint Maarten covers a land area of 87 square kilometres and has a population of over 74,800 people. The largest city on Netherland’s side is Lower Prince’s Quarter with a population of 8,123 people and the largest city on Franc’s side is Marigot with a population of 5,700.

Saint Maarten generally has a tropical climate. The best months to visit are between December and May.

Saint Maarten’s official languages are Dutch and French. Most people also speak English and Spanish as well.
- Currency

On the Dutch administered side, the official currency is the Netherlands Antilles Florin or Guilder (NAF) while on the French administered side; the official currency is the Euro. US Dollars are generally accepted on both sides.

St. Maarten offers a variety of interesting places to visit. Enjoy the beautiful Great Bay in Philipsburg and enjoy a walk on the grand boardwalk along most of Great Bay with spectacular views. Pic Paradis (Peak Paradise). For hikers, walk or stroll up the dirt track through the Loterie Farm to St. Maartn’s highest peak while enjoying the sight of many special sites and learning about the island’s history. The views at the top and along the way are stunning. A visit to the French and Dutch museums in Marigot and Philipsburg is worthwhile to catch a glimpse of the island’s history.
