Tahiti, formally called Otaheite, is the largest island in the Windward group of French Polynesia, located in the archipelago of Society Islands in the southern Pacific Ocean. Tahiti covers a land area of 1,045 square kilometers. It has a population of over 178,000 people and is the most populous island of French constituencies.  Tahiti’s largest city is Papeetē with an urban population of over 131,000 people.

Tahiti’s official language is French. The indigenous Tahitian language (Reo Tahiti) is widely spoken

Tahiti’s official currency is the French Pacific Franc; also known as CFP Franc. The Island’s economy depends heavily on tourism.
