Texas

Description

The state of Texas is the second largest by both population and area in the entire U.S. Texas is bordered by New Mexico to the west, Mexico to the south, Arkansas and Louisiana to the northeast and east respectively and Oklahoma to the north. Texas covers an area of about 696,200 kilometres squared and has a population of about 26 million residents. The state’s capital city is Austin while Houston is the largest city in the state.

Weather

The location of Texas at the intersection of several climatic zones makes the state’s weather highly variable. While some areas have colder winters, others have mild winters. Rain patterns also differ with regions. Summer generally presents maximum temperatures. A good season that stands out is fall during which time the oppressive heat is gone. This makes outdoor activities more fun and pleasant because of the cooler temperatures.

Language

Texas does not have an official language. However most of the state’s residents speak English followed by Spanish. Due to the proximity of the state to Mexico and New Mexico, Texas experiences a lot of immigration from these two.

Currency

Texas uses the dollar currency. The country’s gross state product was the second highest in the country and its economy is the fourth largest worldwide. Since the discovery of petroleum in the state, urban centers have increased dramatically and so has the population. Nevertheless, currency conversion is available in most banks and hotels.
