Description

Thailand, formerly known as Siam, is a country located at the center of Southeast Asia. Thailand neighbors Burma to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the east, the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia to the south and Andaman Sea to the west. Thailand shares maritime borders with Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand to the southeast and Indonesia and India in the Andaman Sea to the southwest. Thailand covers a land area of 513,120 square kilometers. It has a population of over 63 million people. Thailand’s capital is Bangkok, a city with a population of 9.1 million of people.

Thailand generally has a warm tropical climate. The best months to visit are November to February

Thailand’s official language is Thai.

Currency

Thailand’s official currency is the Baht (THB). Thailand is an emerging economy; it is considered a newly industrialized country.

Tourist Attractions

Thailand is home to many tourist attractions. The Bang Pa-In Summer Palace in Ayutthaya is a a reflection of Thailand’s culture. Constructed during the reign of King Prasat Thong in Ayutthaya, it is the palace in which Ayutthaya Kings spent their vacations. Also, visit the Ancient city, 33.5 kilometers southeast of Bangkok and experience the theme park  which boasts of impressive scale replicas of Thai ancient monuments, combining a Thai folk art and culture centre.  Experience the Wat Phra Borommahathat Doi Suthep, a Temple built in 1383 on a plateau and one that commands an impressive view of Thailand’s northern capital, Chiang Mai city. The temple contains a pogada that houses a part of the holy relics of the Lord Buddha.
