Description

Turkey is a Eurasian country located 97% in Asia and 3% in East Thrace, Europe. Turkey neighbor’s are Bulgaria to the northwest, Greece to the west, Georgia to the northeast, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran to the east; and Iraq and Syria to the southeast. The country also neighbor’s the Mediterranean Sea and Cyprus to the south, the Aegean Sea to the west and the Black Sea to the north. Turkey covers a land area of 783,562 square kilometers. It has a population of over 73.7 million people. Turkey’s capital is Ankara, a city with a population of 4.4 million people.

 

Weather

Turkey’s climate varies from temperate Mediterranean climate along its Mediterranean coast, Oceanic climate along Black Sea coast to continental climate in the country’s interior. The best months to visit are July to September.

 

Language

The official language in Turkey is Turkish, spoken by over 70% of its population.

 

Currency

Turkey’s official currency is the Turkish Iira (TRY). The country has a strong economy and ranks 15th in the world among countries with the largest GDP.

Turkey is endowed with numerous attractive sites, ranging from palaces, Mosques to mountains and historical sites. Turkey is considered to be amongst the top ten travel destinations in the world. With such a long coastline, Turkey offers swimming, boating, water rafting, yachting, hiking, biking, and hot air ballooning. The country also offers captivating sights that will make your visit worthwhile. Visit the Dolmabahce Sarayi or Dolmabahce Palace, an exquisite example of European and Ottoman blended design dedicated in 1856. For the active tourist, Turkey has many mountains that offer winter sport activities. The mountains offer wonderful winter sports like skiing, mountain climbing and hiking.
