The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (commonly known as the United Kingdom, the UK or Britain) is a sovereign state located off the north-western coast of continental Europe. United Kingdom comprises the island of Great Britain, the north-eastern part of the island of Ireland and many smaller islands. Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK that shares a land border with another sovereign state, the Republic of Ireland. Apart from this land border the UK is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the English Channel and the Irish Sea. The United Kingdom covers a land area of 243,610 square kilometres and has a population of over 62.2 million people. The country’s capital is London, a city with a population of over 7.8 million people.

UK boasts of a wide variety of tourist attraction sites. The Stonehenge is one of the UK’s most famous and mysterious landmarks consisting of a ring of monolithic stones complete in some cases with heavy stone lintels. Visit the breath taking Jewel of the north, York Minster located in the ancient walled city of York. York Minster has been a place of worship since around 630AD. Portmeirion, a small resort on the west coast of Wales is very Mediterranean in appearance. Its architecture and colour scheme are unlike anything else you’ll find in the United Kingdom, and it has been widely referenced in popular culture. Visit a former royal palace, the Hampton Court, situated in southwest London and once echoed to the footfalls of King Henry VIII. Hampton court is famous for its hedge maze and the reported sightings of numerous ghosts.
