Uruguay

Uruguay is a country located in the south eastern part of South America. Uruguay neighbours Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, to the north, the Uruguay River to the west, estuary of Río de la Plata to the southwest and the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast. Uruguay covers a total land area of 176,000 square kilometres making it the second-smallest nation of South America in land area. Uruguay has a population of over 3.4 million people. It is estimated that 88% of Uruguay’s population are of European descent Uruguay’s capital is Montevideo, a city with a population of over 1.3 million people.

Uruguay’s climate is generally temperate. The best months to visit are mid September to December. March to June are also good months.

The official language in Uruguay is Spanish.

Uruguay’s official currency is the Uruguayan Peso ($, UYU) (UYU). The country has a more developed telecommunications than most other Latin American countries.

Uruguay has an array of attractive sites for visitors seeking to enjoy their holidays. Also, visit the Piramide de la Paz, a famous landmark and monument in San Jose. Lussich Park stretching some 474 acres is a must see. The park is one of the most important botanical gardens in the world with over 420 species of trees, 350 of which are rare.
