Also known as the Commonwealth of Virginia, the state of Virginia is a U.S. State which is located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean on the Southern region of United States. Because of the fact that it was home to 8 American presidents, it has gained several nicknames to that effect including “Mother of Presidents” and “Old Dominion.” Virginia’s capital is Richmond while the largest city is Virginia Beach. The state covers an area of 110,785.67 kilometers squared with a population of about 8 million residents. Virginia is bordered by Washington D.C., Mary Land, North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Virginia’s climate varies across the state. It becomes warmer and more humid towards the south and east. Virginia’s climate is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean as well as the Gulf Stream. Some areas are susceptible to hurricanes and tornadoes.

Language
